Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu says Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu has set up committees to reconcile his camp with his challengers who lost to him in last Saturday’s presidential election.
Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who came second after polling 6,984,520 votes in the election.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party polled 6,101,533 votes to come third, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s Rabiu Kwankwaso came fourth after polling 1,496,687 votes.
But in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, in Akure, the Ondo governor said Tinubu had set up committees to meet with his fellow contestants in the election.
According to Akeredolu, the committees comprise elders of their party, APC, who “would soon begin to meet with co-contestants of the President-elect in a bid to assuage their loss in the just concluded Presidential Election”.
He noted that all the aggrieved persons will be “met for reconciliation”.

Already, the PDP and the Labour Party have separately vowed to recover their stolen mandate, with the latter saying it would go to court to seek redress.

Akeredolu said, “The President-elect has set up committees to meet with the gentlemen who contested in the election for us to start the healing process. I belong to one of the committees. We are going to meet them and appeal to them so that we can work together.
“This is an election that was not padded. People who voted were counted, that is the way I see it; it is not one which shows millions of votes.
“You can see the candidates, everyone won 12 states each, it has never been like that before.”
In the speech he delivered shortly after he was declared the winner of the presidential election, Tinubu extended a hand of fellowship to the supporters of his opponents in the election.
“Whether you are Batified, Atikulated, Obidient, Kwankwasiyya, or have any other political affiliation, you voted for a better, more hopeful nation and I thank you for your participation and dedication to our democracy,” he said.
Also after receiving his certificate of return from INEC on Wednesday afternoon, Tinubu in his speech said, “I know many did not vote for me and you are disappointed that your candidate is not where I stand now. I understand you are hurt. Your anger, and disappointment, I send the embrace and comfort of one family to another.
“This great project, co-Nigerians, it is bigger and more important than any partisan divide. To my supporters, I ask you to continue to face the mission that we have articulated. To those who did not support me, I ask that you should not allow the disappointment of this moment to keep you from realising the historic national progress we can make by working together.”
