Caitlyn, a Republican, has filed paperwork to seek the governorship and has hired several well-known Republican operatives to guide her burgeoning campaign.

The reality star hopes to unseat Current Governor Gavin Newsom, who faces an all-but-certain recall election later this year.

The decathlete has been nursing her political ambition for several years now, even though it has not been as publicized as many other parts of her life.

Word of the decision was first reported by Axios and confirmed by Fox News.

Caitlyn’s statement reads, “California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

“But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by a one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.”
