UNILAG VC wants students to develop interest in entrepreneurship

University of Lagos Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has urged students to develop interest in entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Faculty of Engineering Webinar Room and Auto Diagnostic and Prognostic Centre, he explained that it was wise for students to become entrepreneurs after graduation.

Ogundipe said, “We are encouraging our students to show more interest in entrepreneurship. Engineering is broad based and that’s the reason we have told our students that after graduation, they should choose to be an entrepreneur.”

The webinar room was a partnership between the Faculty of Engineering and the 1999 alumni.

Ogundipe stressed that the centre was established from the university Internally Generated revenue, adding that the university approved certain funds to faculties and the centre was what engineering department did with its fund.

“They partnered with the alumni of the university; likewise, our students can go out and get more practical experience and exposure. This would expose our students to the practical side of what they’re being taught,” he said.

While appreciating Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for donating 85 computers to the Surveying and Geo-informatics department, Ogundipe also called on other alumni of the school to pick a project and develop the school or train an indigent student.

Vice President of the faculty of engineering 99 graduating set, Olufemi Samuel, explained that the provision of the webinar room would make the engineering students to be globally competitive.

“We can now be par with our colleagues all over the world. It’s 20years of leaving this faculty; we are giving back to the society that gave birth to us. We want to challenge all other sets not to forget UNILAG. This is going to be one out of many,” he emphasised.
