UNILORIN debunks alleged student abduction

The management of the University of Ilorin has described last Friday’s alleged abduction of one of its students, Miss Moyosore Bright, at its main campus as a rumour.

The university, in a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, on Monday said that its campus was safe and that none of its students was kidnapped.

 

Akogun said, “The management of the University of Ilorin viewed with grave concern last weekend’s story about one of its students, Moyosore Bright.

“It is important to state that the said student is hale and hearty, and her purported abduction was a ruse and figment of the imagination of the rumour mongers.

 

“The management further assures the public that its campus is safe for learning, research, and community service in pursuit of its tripartite mandate.”

The Kwara State Police Command, while confirming the abduction of a 100-level female Zoology Student of the University of Ilorin on Sunday, said that the student identified as Moyosore Bright was kidnapped while boarding a minibus at the bus terminus of the institution last Friday.

 

The police command, in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, said, “On 27th January 2024 at about 2200hrs, the DPO Tanke received information that a 100-level student of the University of Ilorin was abducted within the school premises.

“Upon receipt of the information, the DPO and team responded promptly. Preliminary investigation revealed that on 26th January 2024 at about1400hrs a female student named Moyosore Bright of the Zoology Department, University of Ilorin boarded a mini bus (korope) at the school terminus on the main campus alongside other students with the intent of heading to her hostel at Tanke.

 

“However, she suddenly regained consciousness in the bush at about 1900hrs of the same day several kilometres away from the Ilorin metropolis”
