Despite police confirmation of a bomb blast at St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, emerging reports have suggested that worshippers were shot at close range, thus debunking the explosion claim.
Families of victims of the attack have also said that their loved ones were shot while some claimed to be direct victims that escaped. The priest of the church and some members of the church were also reportedly kidnapped.

The police had earlier confirmed a case of an explosion in the church with many feared dead at the church which is situated close to the palace of the Olowo of Owo.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has expressed shock on the development, saying he is short of words.
