The Federal University Gashua (FUGA) in Yobe State has reacted to the assault of one its senior lecturers, Samiu Dagari, of the Chemistry Department by political thugs.
It was gathered that Dagari was allegedly attacked after he claimed that some politicians in Nguru, his hometown, are involved in sorcery, sodomy and other evil acts.
The unidentified persons were said to have confronted the lecturer and started beating him up until other passersby intervened.
Reacting to the incident, the institution Registrar, Abubakar Mamuda, in a statement on Thursday, debunked the claim alleging that its students flogged one of its senior lecturers, Samiu Dagari of the Chemistry Department.
Condemning the assault, Dagari added that the barbaric act was done by thugs hired by an undisclosed politician and it took place in Nguru, the lecturer’s hometown.
He said, “The attention of the Federal University, Gashua, Yobe, is drawn to a viral video clip in the social media and a few online newspapers, alleging that some students of Dr Dagari attacked and flogged him, Mamuda stated.

“We state categorically that the story is false and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the good image of the university and its virtuous students.
“The said incident did not occur in the university, but rather in the hometown of Dr Dagari and at his family house.
“The attack was executed by some thugs sponsored by a politician. The thugs who assaulted Dr Dagari are not students of the Federal University, Gashua.’’
He added that the incident had been reported to the appropriate security agencies and investigation was on-going.
