Why Teachers Need Multiple Sources of Income- School Owner

The Proprietor of Trailblazer Academy, Gwarinpa, Abuja, has urged teachers in the country to have multiple sources of income so as not to become financially incapacitated.

Abraham, on a Facebook educational group, ‘School owners and managers forum,’ said teaching was the first source of income which usually lasts eight hours every day.

He said, “Teachers can also engage in private teaching aside from their normal daily jobs. I always assist my teachers to get private teaching jobs from parents whose children may be having learning difficulties.  With two private lessons, teachers can earn extra income between N30, 000 and N40, 000 monthly.”

Abraham added that teachers could set up poultry farms where they live or buy farm produce at harvest prices and store up for sales when price increases.

He stressed that, “If you have been teaching for more than five years, you can offer consulting services to schools where you have taught before, smaller schools, or newer schools. This is a job you can charge for as previous schools where you have worked will be willing to engage your service even when you are no longer in their service. This is why it is good to build a good relationship with your employers.

“Another source of income is to write books in your area of expertise. You can write books or produce examination solutions for common entrance, National Examinations Council and Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board and offer to publishers to print, market and you would be paid. Do you know you can help schools recruit good hands in your discipline and charge for the service? That is what some human resource firms do to make a living.”

Abraham also explained that teachers could make money by getting schools they could set and mark their examinations based on the scheme and experience in the field.
