Zamfara gets N1bn TETFUND intervention for state-owned university

The Zamfara State Government has secured N1 billion intervention fund from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for its state-owned university at Talata Mafara even as the state recruits 600 teachers through its Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The Special Adviser to Governor Bello Matawalle on Media, Communication and Public Enlightenment, Zailani Bappa, made this known in Gusau on Thursday while reeling out the governor’s achievements after spending one year in office.

He said that the governor inherited an uncompleted state university project in Talata Mafara, and decided to continue with it considering the importance of continuity in government.

“Apart from securing the TETFUND intervention, the government appointed management of the university and took other measures to have a solid foundation for the institution.

He said the administration has also sponsored 200 indigenes of the state to study Medicine, Para-medicals and Science courses in China, India and Sudan, adding that   600 new classrooms were constructed across the state while 300 others were renovated in various primary schools.

He said that furniture as well as other teaching and learning materials were provided to all the newly constructed and renovated classrooms across the state and that the state government also released N400 million for the release of WASSCE and NECO results of secondary school leavers in the state.”
