Zulum, nine others receive Hallmarks of Labour leadership award

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, on Saturday, received the Hallmarks of Labour (HLF) Award for Excellence in Leadership and Good Governance in Nigeria.

Governor Zulum was honoured for his people-oriented approach to governance and accomplishments in office. In his first year in office, the Zulum administration is credited with completing 326 physical projects and 49 capital-intensive programmes and policies. By the second year, there were 556 capital projects, with 194 focusing on education.

He is also known as Borno state’s chief humanitarian officer, for going above and beyond, even at personal risk, to ensure good governance for his constituents, many of whom have been traumatised by security challenges.

The former Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku presented the governor with the award during the Hallmarks of Labour’s 26th anniversary and 2022 Role Model Awards held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday.

Speaking after receiving the award, Zulum said the award will continue to challenge him to do more for the people.

“This award is a call to do more for our people. There is so much to be done and Insha Alla will achieve it. This award will indeed give us the needed faith and courage to do our very best looking at the level of commitment to the good people of Borno. My dream is to see a society that works for everyone, and not for a few people.

“I dedicate this award to my team, and most especially to the men in uniform who work with us, supporting us to achieve and deliver good governance to our people.

Anyaoku commended the Borno State Governor for the effort he put into providing good governance, especially for his strides in the education sector.

Nine other accomplished Nigerians were also honoured with the Hallmarks of Labour Leadership awards in different categories.

Other recipients are; Judge Dr. Chile Eboe-Osuji, a former judge at the International Criminal Court was recognised as the HLF-Emeka Anyaoku Life-Time Achievement Award to Nigeria’s Outstanding International Icon, Honourable Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Courageous Service to the Advancement of our Legal System), Otunba Olasubomi Michael Balogun ( Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Governance), Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide (Consistent Advocacy for Positive Change within the University System), Professor Peter Akinsola Okebukola ( Contributions in the Field of Education), Professor Frank Osato Giwa-Osagie ( Contributions in the Field of Medicine), Professor Oladapo Adenrele Ashiru (Contributions in the Field of Medicine), Professor Dennis Edokpaigbe Agbonlah (Contributions in the Field of Science), Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo ( Contributions in the Field of Science), Professor Tonnie Osa Iredia (Excellence in Leadership and Professionalism in the Media).

Lumen Christi International School, Uromi, Edo State, received the Hallmarks of Labour Foundation Young Achievers Award for emerging as the best performing school in the WASSCE.
