The Ogun State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of Babaji Daule, a 35-year-old zookeeper, who was killed by a lion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta.

According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred when Daule allegedly neglected to secure the lion’s enclosure before attempting to feed the animal.

This negligence allowed the lion to escape and attack him, resulting in fatal injuries to his neck.

Odutola explained, “The Chief Security Officer informed the Divisional Police Officer that Daule, a trained handler, carelessly left the safety gate open. Tragically, this led to his death.”

The remains of the victim have been taken to the State Hospital morgue, and the lion was subsequently shot to prevent further injury.

In their official statement, the park management expressed condolences to Daule’s family and assured the public that they are committed to maintaining high safety standards for both visitors and staff. They also confirmed that investigations are ongoing and have been reported to the police.
