First Lady Aisha Buhari has now deactivated her Twitter account in a display of support for the Nigerian Government’s indefinite ban on the operations of the micro-blogging platform in the country.
Aisha Buhari had on Friday night announced that she planned on deactivating her account in a bid to back FG’s directive.
“I will be deactivating my Twitter account for now. Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she had tweeted.
Following up on the first lady’s statement, our correspondents monitored her official Twitter handle. Indeed, Aisha deactivated her account as what was once her handle now displays, “This account doesn’t exist”.
The Federal Government had, before the ban of the social media platform, accused Twitter of “double standards”. On Friday, Lai Mohammed, the country’s Information Minister, announced the suspension.
