Another female student raped, killed in Oyo State

A student of Oke -Ogun Polytechnic in Saki, Oyo State, Grace Oshiagwu, has been reportedly raped and killed in Ibadan, the state capital. This is the third case of rape and deaths in the state in two weeks.

The deceased, a National Diploma student of the polytechnic, was said to have been killed in a church around Idi-Ori area of Shasha in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state on Saturday as confirmed by the residents and the police. However, the police could not confirm the rape.

Recall that Baraka Bello, a student of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Federal College of Animal Health and Production, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, Baraka Bello, was also raped and killed on June 1. Similarly, a 29-year-old woman, Azeezat Somuyiwa, a pregnant postgraduate student of the University of Ibadan was killed in her home on June 5. Both cases occurred at the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.

A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, said the blood on Oshiagwu’s body and the cut on her head showed that she was raped before she was killed.

Another resident claimed the lady might have been killed for ritual purpose as her hairs were shaven and taken away. It was disclosed that the corpse had been deposited at Adeoyo State Hospital in Ibadan.

The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident. He said, “One Grace Oshiagwu, female, aged 21 years, was macheted on her head in a church mission building at Idi-Ori Area, Shasha off expressway by unknown assailant(s) today 13/06/2020 about 3:00 pm.”

He urged the public to assist with information to apprehend the killers.
