British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson is set to resign as prime minister.
Johnson is set to give a statement to the nation later today officially announcing his resignation.
But with no clear leader waiting in the wings, and a number of Tory frontrunners expected to challenge for the top job, Mr Johnson could remain in place until a successor is chosen in the Autumn, Daily Mail reports.
Earlier, Nadhim Zahawi, the newly-appointed Chancellor, publicly called for Boris Johnson to resign as he told the Prime Minister he must “go now”.
Zahawi said that the current situation is “not sustainable and it will only get worse” for the PM, the Conservative Party and the country.

Circumstances have dramatically changed’
Suella Braverman defended her previous allegiance to Boris Johnson, stressing that things have changed in recent days that have now made his position untenable.
“Circumstances have dramatically changed in the last 48 hours. I’ve constantly supported the Prime Minister in a steadfast fashion,” the Attorney General told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
She denied she is behaving opportunistically.
“The writing’s on the wall. I can’t fight the evidence and the facts we’ve had,” she said.
