The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, is dead.
He died at the age of 70. The senator had been battling with complications from COVID-19 until his death.
Ajimobi was governor of Oyo State between 2011 and 2019. He was named the Acting National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress last week but he never resumed office.
There were rumours of his death last week but it later turned out to be false reports. He was reportedly hospitalised at a Lagos hospital after contracting coronavirus and developing complications.

He however died in the hospital after reportedly spending days in intensive care. Premium Times quoted the late senator’s ally, who is also a federal lawmaker, Akin Alabi, as confirming the death of the former governor on Thursday. The lawmaker, according to the online newspaper, expressed shock at Ajimobi’s death.
The former governor’s media aide, Bolaji Tunji, however, is yet to confirm the death.
