COVID-19 not a hoax, cases rising —Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has cautioned Nigerians against the belief that the existence of coronavirus is a prank.

Instead, he said that COVID-19 cases are rising in Lagos State in a social media post on Sunday.

The governor said the Lagos government has activated a new oxygen plant to ensure that more patients recover from the virus.

Sanwo-Olu said, “Lagosians, #COVID19 is not a glamorous disease, neither is it a hoax. You need to follow the safety guidelines to safeguard your friends and loved ones.

“In the midst of increasing #COVID19 cases, we have some good news from our Infectious Diseases Hospital.

“We have activated a new oxygen plant which will help by providing much-needed oxygen to patients. The plant will supplement oxygen supply to about 300 cylinders per day and six cylinders per hour.

“We are working to ensure patients receive the best care at our state facilities.”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said the country’s COVID-19 infections increased from 97,478 on January 8 to 99,063 on Saturday, indicating 1,585 new infections, and with eight additional COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours.
