Oluwaseyi Oyetunde, a driver of a company in Ogun State, has been arrested alongside two others for allegedly absconding with goods worth N4.7 million meant for a customer in Lagos State.

The police in Ogun said they were arrested in connection with the diversion of goods belonging to one Hayat Kimya Company.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Sunday that the driver and the two other suspects, Segun Oluwaseun and Chijoke Ogbu, were arrested after the matter was reported at Agbara police station last week by one Oluwatosin Ayodeji.

Ayodeji had reported to the police that Oyetunde loaded the goods meant to be delivered to a Lagos customer, but “since the 24th of August, 2021, the said driver has absconded with the goods and the truck.”

Following the report, the DPO of Agbara division, SP Saleh Dahiru, was said to have detailed his crack detectives to investigate the sudden disappearance of the driver and the goods.

Oyeyemi said, “The team embarked on an intelligence-based investigation and traced the driver and the truck to Lagos State where he was promptly arrested with the empty truck.”

During interrogation, Oyeyemi revealed that “the driver confessed that he diverted the goods to the receivers, who bought the goods from him at a give away price.”

This led to the arrest of the buyers by policemen in their shops, “where parts of the stolen goods were recovered and the two receivers arrested.”

The Ogun Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered a full investigation into the matter with a view to recovering the remaining goods.

Ajogun also directed that the suspects be charged to court for prosecution.
