The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki says his administration will continue to prioritise the welfare of teachers.
He adds that the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) at home programme has helped to keep pupils engaged despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The governor said this is in commemoration of the International Day of Education marked by the United Nations and other sister organisations.
According to the governor, “As we mark the International Day of Education, it is important to reiterate our commitment to teachers’ welfare as we are well aware of the immense role they play in educating our children and shaping the future. There is no denying that we have had to undertake a surgical reform of the primary education sector, and we are proud of the outcome and impact of our efforts.

“As a result of these reforms and the commitment of our teachers, we were ranked among the most innovative states spearheading a change in tackling learning poverty.”
He added that the theme for this year’s commemoration, ‘Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation’, is in line with his administration’s drive to deploy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools for learning as was obtained in the EDOBEST and EdoBEST@Home programmes.
“With such a theme, it is abundantly clear that we are miles ahead in Edo State with the manner in which we have trained and engaged our teachers to deploy technology in the classroom.

“Today, we can confidently boast that our teachers and pupils can learn in the new world order defined by realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, which places more emphasis on virtual rather than physical contact,” he added.
