A soft launch of the James Minna Okpeki Foundation (a non-profit organisation) has been scheduled to hold on December 14, 2023 to commemorate his posthumous 88th birthday.
James Minna Okpeki (1935 -2013) had many loves, two of which were people and football. The inauguration of the JMOFFC aims to celebrate both.
According to a statement by its sponsors, Mrs Judith Ufford (nee Okpeki) and Mrs Linda Obiamiwe (nee Okpeki), there would be an online competition.
The online competition runs during November and closes on 6th December. Participants are to answer three questions (questions and answers are available online) and submit their preferred slogan for the new Foundation.
Ten winners, who will share the cash prize of five hundred thousand niara, will be announced on 14th December.
Mrs Ufford, James Minna Okpeki’s first daughter, and member of the Foundation’s board, says “this is a remarkably apt way to remember my father. He was renowned for his generosity, to family, friends and strangers alike.
“A foundation in his memory that invests in the potential of young people through grass root football brings together so much that was important and joyful to him.”
