JUST IN: Tinubu announces replacement for Southeast CBN board nominee

President Bola Tinubu has announced a replacement for the nominee from the Southeast region who declined the appointment to the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

 

This decision by Tinubu comes after the original nominee, Mr. Kalu Eke, expressed his unavailability for the position.

Tinubu’s announcement was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary session, urging the Senate to confirm the new nominee swiftly.

The replacement nominee, Dr Ruby Onwudiwe, has been put forward by Tinubu for consideration by the Senate.

In his letter, Tinubu said: “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“The Senate is invited to kindly note that Dr. Ruby Onwudiwe is a replacement for Mr. Kalu Eke, due to the unavailability of Mr Eke for the position.

 

“It is my hope, therefore, that the Senate will consider and confirm in its usual expeditious manner the appointment of Onwudiwe.”

 

The Senate is expected to expeditiously consider and confirm Dr Ruby Onwudiwe’s appointment, thereby facilitating the seamless integration of the new nominee into the CBN’s decision-making processes.
