Lagos govt conducts paper pencil test for 8,550 pupils

No fewer than 8550 Primary Six pupils on Saturday sat for the year 2020 Paper Pencil Test (PPT) Entrance Examination (Screening Test) into Lagos State Model Colleges and Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools in 55 centres across the state.

The pupils were tested in two subjects; English Studies and Mathematics.

The centres monitored by government officials and journalists were Vetland Senior Grammar school, Ifako -Ijaye and State Junior High School, Oyewole.

Answering questions from the Journalists on the conduct of examination, the  Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, through the Permanent Secretary in  the Ministry of Education stated that the exercise was smooth and hitch free in all centres.

She added that the turnout was very impressive. The commissioner noted that the pupils are not writing examination but being screened, adding  that Model Colleges are for unique and intelligent pupils.

She revealed that only limited space is available for Admission. She enjoined the pupils to do their best because year 2020 admission into Model Colleges and Upgraded Junior Secondary Schools would be strictly on merit.  She explained that only pupils who performed excellently would be offered admission.

Adefisayo stressed further that  Paper Pencil Testing Version for this year might be the last one to be conducted because the State Government is doing everything possible to conduct the next year examination through the use of Computer Based Testing (CBT).

She said Governor Babajde Olusola Sanwo-Olu has placed a premium on the education sector. She added that a sizeable budget has been earmarked for education to address the issue of infrastructural deficiency and to get new set of computers, scanners in our public schools.

The commissioner advised parents / guardians to expose their children / wards to the use of technology, adding that there are different educational application that would enhance innovation, creativity and  talents.

She also admonished the parents to acquaint their children with the use of Computer as it would boost the e-learning.

In his remarks, the Director, Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Supo Gbadegesin, opined that the board as an examining body is doing its best towards achieving the set target goal and ensure that the dream of conducting the Screening Test into Lagos State Model Colleges through Computer Based Testing come to pass.
