Lagos monitors WASSCE in Amuwo-Odofin, Ojo riverine areas

The Office of Education Quality Assurance in the Lagos State Ministry of Education has embarked on a one day monitoring exercise of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the riverine area of Education District V.

During the exercise, the Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni and OEQA evaluators visited Tomaro Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, Igbologun Senior Secondary School, Ikaare Senior Grammar School, Ivory Senior Grammar School, Ibese, all in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area and Osolu Senior Secondary School, Irewe and Egan Senior High School, Egan-Oromi both in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Speaking during the exercise, Mrs. Seriki- Ayeni described the conduct of WASSCE in the riverine area of Education District 5 as satisfactory.

“The conduct of WASSCE in the riverine area of Education District V is satisfactory. This is despite its unique challenges due to the terrain. I am impressed with the conduct, the students are well behaved.”

Seriki-Ayeni urged the students to put in more efforts into learning to achieve their goals in life.

She also advised schools with more population than their infrastructure to settle for the option of staggered learning system when schools reopen in line with the Federal and State Government’s directive of physical distancing of two meters apart, adding that parents should be carried along in deciding the most effective and convenient ways to go about the new normal.

Seriki-Ayeni also urged the school principals to put more effort on sensitisation campaign on the preventive measures of COVID-19 pandemic as it is still in our society.

“We must learn to follow the trend which is the new normal of safe learning environment by adhering strictly to all safety protocols such as temperature checks, proper wearing of face masks, use of hand sanitisers and regular washing of hands under running water.

“It is a must for schools in this period of the pandemic to have a quality health and safety plan as well as isolation/ holding room before the students resume.”
