The Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Office of Education Quality Assurance has presented the Integrity Test Reports (ITR) on safe school buildings to private schools in the state.

The LSMTL is established to put in place quality control assurance mechanisms that will prevent distress on buildings and civil engineering infrastructures and also curb the incidences of incessant collapse of school buildings.

The state governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, had directed  that all public and private school buildings in the state should undergo integrity tests to prevent future occurrences of school building collapses.

The Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, said the governor was so passionate about education and the safety of learners, hence, the directive that school buildings in the state must undergo integrity test.

According to her, the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda of the governor is collaborative in nature.  She said, “Since we have identified the core missing links in the process of securing school approvals, it is natural that the OEQA collaborate with the testing laboratory to bridge the gap by ensuring that integrity test is conducted on school buildings.

She appealed to  private schools in the state to adjust to this new norm by ensuring that their buildings are subjected to integrity tests.

The General Manager, Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen revealed that the idea of integrity tests for school buildings to know their safety condition was as a result of recent bomb blasts that resulted in the collapse of many buildings in state.

He  said that the presentation of  the Integrity Test Report (ITR) to private schools in the state was for all school owners to know that the LSMTL has started conducting safety integrity test on school buildings with structures above three (3) floors across the five (5) Divisions, LGAs and LCDAs in the State.

He enjoined all school owners to operate an open door policy in this regard because the LSMTL teams would be visiting schools in the next few weeks.
