The unexpected happened to some top party leaders, political stakeholders and candidates on Saturday, March 18th governorship and the house of assembly elections.

Reports revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled governorship and the house of assembly elections to hold last Saturday across 28 out of 36 States of the federation.

The outcome of the election results announced so far since yesterday called for celebrations for some of the candidates and party chieftains. It was, however, a bitter experience for some of the politicians.

In no particular order, see below how top political stakeholders and party chieftains lost and won their territories

APC National Chairman
Again during the gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, failed to deliver his polling units for the party’s candidates.

Adamu, who hails from Keffi Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, lost to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, David Ombugadu at his GRA (A1) – PB 010 polling unit.

According to the results announced by the INEC Presiding Officer, Okoh Everest, the PDP candidate polled 158 votes to defeat the state Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who scored 129 votes, while the Social Democratic Party’s candidate garnered one vote.

It was gathered that the APC national chairman also lost his polling unit in the February 25, 2023, presidential and National Assembly elections to the LP.

Makinde Wins Polling Unit
In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP won his polling unit with 174 votes to beat the APC candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, who garnered 28 votes.

For the House of Assembly poll, the PDP scored 160 votes while the PC scored 30 in the governor’s polling unit.

Lagos Labour Party Guber Candidate Loses PU
In Lagos State, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) lost his Polling Unit (PU) to rival APC as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jandor also recorded poor votes at the centre.

Buhari Delivers Polling Unit In Katsina
Nigeria’s incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, again delivered the votes from his polling unit for the APC candidates in Katsina State.

The results announced by the INEC collation officer for the President’s polling unit, Hamza Yusuf, showed that for the governorship election, the APC scored 261 votes, while the PDP got 32 votes.

Similarly, the APC scored 240 votes in the State House of Assembly election, while PDP scored 50 votes.

Sanwo-Olu Defeats GRV, Wins His PU
In Lagos, GRV polled 18 votes in his polling unit, while Sanwo-Olu won with 29 votes in the Labour Party candidate’s polling unit.

Another contestant in the governorship election, PDP’s Olajide Adeniran, also known as Jandor, polled two votes in Rhodes-Vivour’s unit.

In the House of Assembly election at the polling unit, the APC polled 34, the LP 15, while the PDP polled one vote.

For the House of Assemblies election, APC polled 43; LP, 5; and APGA, 1 vote.

Jandor Wins His Polling Unit
It was all celebration for Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popular known as Jandor as the PDP governorship candidate defeated his closest rivals, Sanwo-Olu and Rhodes-Vivour of the LP in his polling unit in Osolu Junior High School, Unit 001, Ward G in Irewe, Ojo Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that Jandor polled 79 votes while Sanwo-Olu secured 66 votes. Rhodes-Vivour, however, got one vote.

In the House of Assembly election, PDP polled 81 votes against 76 polled by the APC, as the LP tinubu’s single vote.

Sanwo-Olu Wins Tinubu’s Unit
Again in Lagos State, Governor Sanwo-Olu of the APC cruised home, winning at the polling unit of the president-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Announcing the results of Polling Unit 085, Ward 3, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, the Assistant Presiding Officer III of the INEC, Adebola Adebiyi, the APC candidate polled 43 votes, while his closest contender, the LP candidate, Rhodes-Vivour, had five votes.

Ogun: Governor Abiodun Wins Polling Unit
In Ogun State, the incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun won his polling unit.

Abiodun, who is the governorship candidate of the APC, polled 147 votes to defeat the PDP, which of 142 votes.

Also, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, delivered two polling units for Governor Abiodun.

Plateau PDP Guber Candidate Wins PU
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the PDP in Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, won the governorship poll in Manji Pam Eze Street polling unit 055 in Jos South LGA of the state with a total of 20 votes.

From the result declared by the INEC Presiding Officer, Musa Yusuf, after counting the votes scored by parties on Saturday, the governorship candidate of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, scored 11 votes, while the candidate of the LP, Patrick Dakum, came third with four votes.

For the state House of Assembly elections, the PDP scored 20 votes while the APC scored 10 votes. The LP scored five votes.

Keyamo Delivers PU In Delta
In Delta State, the Minister of State for Labour and chief spokesman for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, delivered his Polling Unit 17, Ward 2 in Uvwie LGA for his party’s governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

In the governorship contest, APC polled 32 to defeat the PDP and the LP which garnered 19 and 10 votes respectively.

The APC also trounced other rivals in the State House of Assembly category by polling 32, while LP and PDP got 18 and 17 votes.

Kwara Governor AbdulRazaq Wins PU
The incumbent Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of the APC won his Idi-Igba Polling Unit 004 of Adewole Ward in Ilorin West local resultant area of Kwara state.

Official results by the INEC showed that APC polled 243 votes in the governorship ballot as against PDP’s 58.

Speaking on the exercise, the governor said, “On the BVAan S, the reports so far show that there is an improvement, compared to the last elections.”

However, the PDP has floored the APC in one of the polling units in Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna in Saturday’s governorship poll.

The main opposition party’s candidate, Isa Ashiru Kudan, won Polling Unit 014 with 77 votes while APC’s Uba Sani got 40 voa tes.

Catholic Priest, Alia Delivers PU In Benue
In Benue State, a Catholic Priest and governorship candidate of the APC, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, won the two polling units in Government House, Makurdi.

Fr Alia defeated Governor Samuel Ortom’s anointed candidate, Titus Uba, of the PDP.

At the Polling Unit, the APC candidate polled 36 votes to beat the PDP candidate, who polled 10 votes, while at the Art Theatre polling unit, Rev Fr Alia polled 130 votes to defeat PDP Uba, who polled 43 votes.

In Anambra State, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Chief Victor Oye, won in his polling unit in Ebeakpu Ward, Polling Unit 003 in Amawbia, Awka South Local Govea rnment Area of the Anambra State, amidst large voter turnout.

His party polled 166 votes to defeat the PDP, which scored 74 votes.

Niger APC Guber Candidate Wins PU
For the governorship election, the candidate of the APC in Niger State, Mohammed Bago, defeated his PDP, LP and NNPP opponents at his polling unit.

Bago recorded 249 votes at Twashagi Rabba Polling Unit 010 in Bida to defeat Liman Kantigi of the PDP who scored 56 votes, while LP’s Joshua Bawa got one vote.

In another development, the APC, PDP, NNPP and SDP governorship candidates in Taraba State won in their various polling units.

Gombe PDP Guber Candidate Loses PU
Meanwhile, the PDP governorship candidate in Gombe State, Muhammad Barde, lost his polling unit to the incumbent governor and candidate of the APC, Muhammadu Yahaya.

Announcing the result on Saturday evening, the Assistant Presiding Officer, Usman Memorial Bajoga Ward 006 in Gombe Local Government Area, Abubakar Salisu, said Barde polled 160, while his APC counterpart polled 195 votes.

El-Rufai Delivered His Polling Unit
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna of State delivered his Ung. Sarki Polling Unit 024 to the APC in Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.

 

The Presiding Officer, Haruna Shafiu, who announced the results, said the APC candidate, Senator Uba Sani, polled 257 votes, while Isa Ashiru of the PDP scored 81 votes in the governorship poll.
