Love gone sour: Top celebrity breakups of 2022

Not all celebrities are lucky in love. Some stars have had to give love a first, second, and third shot before they eventually found The One.

And this is where the controversies spring from. Their fans don’t seem to understand why this is so. Some fail to realise that celebrities are simply human and are bound to make mistakes.

Below are some celebrities who have parted ways with their partner in 2022.

Funke Akindele

Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa is a Nigerian film actress and producer. On May 26, 2012, Funke married Otunba Adeola Kehinde Oloyede, a union which crashed in 2013 due to a difference of opinions, lack of agreement, and also because of her lack of fertility at that period.

 The actress later married Nigerian rapper Abdulrasheed Bello a.k.a JJC Skillz in London in May 2016, a marriage that produced twin boys in December 2018.

 On the 30th of June 2022 rapper, JJC Skillz announced to his friends and families on his Instagram account that his marriage with the award-winning actress had come to an end.

Although the reason for separation is still unknown, a few weeks back, JJC Skillz son from another lady, Benito, claimed that there was trouble in Bello’s household as he made allusions to infidelity in the home.

Cha Cha Eke

Charity Eke, popularly known as Cha Cha Eke is a Nigerian actress from Ebonyi State.

Cha Cha Eke married movie director Austin Faani Ikechukwu in 2013, a marriage which has produced 4 kids — three girls, and a boy.

Two years ago, the Nollywood actress made a video, telling her fans that she was done with her marriage to Austin Faani, reasons which she decided to withhold, five days after making the video, she did another one telling her fans that she has bipolar disorder and that she is still with her partner.

In June 2022, Cha Cha via her Instagram page announced the end of her marriage, the actress shared a cryptic post in which she mentioned that her life is at risk, she wrote;  “Leave now Alive, or Leave a Corpse.” This post created lots of reactions from her fans, most people wondering if she had been a victim of domestic violence.

Meanwhile, Austin Faani cleared the air in a post explaining that he has never laid his hands on Cha Cha Eke or any woman.

 Burna Boy and Stefflon Don

The afrobeat king, Burna Boy broke up with his rapper girlfriend of three years, after he took to his Instagram story and announced he’s officially single, he wrote ” And FYI  ODOGWU NOR GET WIFE”. The pair, who started dating early 2019 have had a rocky relationship, with several claims of infidelity.

It seemed that his now ex, Stefflon Don, didn’t take too kindly to his words and responded on Twitter by saying:

“No matter how much love, Loyalty or how good you treat someone, people are just not solid and scream real but are the fakest. Fame & money changes some ppl. When people show you who they are believe them. As hard as that may be. God sees and knows. People genuinely need prayers”.

Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey

While Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey weren’t shy about hiding their love for each other during their romance, the twosome called it quits less than two years into their relationship.

The model confirmed her relationship with the Black Panther actor in January 2021 with a pair of tagged photos on Instagram. Michael matured a lot over the course of their relationship and was ready to commit for the long term. He let down his guard with her, opening up emotionally in a romantic relationship for the first time. They had great times together and brought out the best in each other.

Steve Harvey, Lori’s father implied that his daughter’s breakup was amicable at the time. “He’s still a cool guy … from what I know. It’s a breakup. I’m pretty sure they’ll be fine. People break up all the time. I just wish I could have broke up without the cost factor!” he said on The Steve Harvey Show.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué

Longtime couple Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced their split in a joint statement in early June, but never said the real reason, as they asked for discretion for the sake of their family, The statement read,  “We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”.

 Although a former boyfriend of a sister of the singer, revealed the truth of the separation between them, Roberto Garcia, ex-boyfriend of one of Shakira’s sisters, spoke in an interview for the Spanish media EsDiario in which he assured that his ex-sister-in-law and the soccer player appeared to have a perfect relationship, but in reality, the problems between them began months ago and the reasons were merely economic.

Korra Obidi

American-based Nigerian, Anita Obidi Korra, popularly known as Korra Obidi is a multi-talented dancer, singer, actress, and model

 In 2018, Korra Obidi married an American doctor and sports therapist Dr Justin Dean, a marriage that produced two daughters but lasted for 4 years.

 Their marriage crashed a few days after they welcomed their second child, a development that shocked many of their fans on social media.

Dean announced on his social media accounts that he was done with the marriage reasons which he blamed on infidelity, narcissism, and lack of accountability, he further explained that he needed to protect his mental health. Dr Jean Dustin also claimed that his estranged wife was a cheat.

 Meanwhile, Korra in her defence, explained that she wasn’t a cheat but had an affair once before she went to America, she also said that she was still inconclusive at that period, the dancer further explained that upon getting to America, she opened up about her extra-marital affairs.

 Korra Obidi also accused her ex-husband of cheating as she shared a video of Justin Dean with a lady which he took on a trip to Brazil.
