The family of late singer Mohbad has expressed disapproval of plans to mark the anniversary of his death with pomp. In a statement, the family’s legal team member Monisola Odumosu said they prefer to mourn Mohbad in peace and do not seek to reopen old wounds.
The family is concerned that some individuals and organizations might use Mohbad’s memory for commercial purposes.
The statement reads: “It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organizations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas.”

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, under circumstances that are still unclear. The family has appealed to individuals and organizations to seek proper approval before proceeding with any plans to commemorate Mohbad’s death.
