Edo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Prof Yinka Omorogbe, has faulted reports in the social media that the late 100-level student of the University of Benin, Uwaila Omozuwa, killed inside a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, was pregnant as at the time of her death, saying the late undergraduate was a virgin before she was raped and murdered.
Earlier reports in the social media had indicated that a suspect arrested in connection with Uwa’s murder confessed that he was hired by the pastor of a church to kill her because she was pregnant for the pastor.

However, addressing a protest organised by members of the Edo Women Development Initiatives in Benin on Friday, Omorogbe said the news of the deceased undergraduate being impregnated by her pastor caused serious anguish to the family members.
He said, “What happened to Uwa was terrible; it was a brutal experience. We were shocked by some of the things we saw all over the place, particularly on social media. A terrible lie is being peddled on social media, not regular press, that Uwa was impregnated by her pastor. It’s a terrible story.
“From the autopsy done on Uwa, it was clearly established that not only was she not pregnant, she was a virgin, so, how can boyfriend and pregnancy come into play?”
He reiterated that rape could only be totally eradicated from the society if criminals got the judgment they deserved.
