There was chaos at the office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Akure, Ondo State on Tuesday as protesters besieged the bank to swap their old Naira notes with new ones.

According to reports, the protesters complained that they have thousands of the old notes in their possession, but their various banks have refused to allow them deposit the notes in the bank for new ones.

It was gathered that the protesters stood their ground at the bank and resisted all attempts by the bank officials to make them leave the premises.

One of the protesters identified as Francis reportedly said they were at the CBN at Alagbaka Akure because the commercial banks refused to collect the old notes from them.

Francis said he could not allow his money to become useless.

Policemen were thereafter drafted to the scene and after some minutes, some CBN officials informed the protesters the commercial banks have been contacted to begin the collection of old notes.
