The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Kwankwaso are in discussions to form an alliance for the 2027 presidential election.

According to PDP deputy national publicity secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi, the three opposition leaders are considering setting aside personal interests to form a formidable alliance.

Abdullahi noted that the PDP could have defeated the APC in 2023 if not for internal conflicts and poor leadership.

Discussions of a merger or alliance have been ongoing, with meetings between Atiku and Obi and a visit from former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai to Atiku. Obi and Kwankwaso left the PDP before the 2023 election due to irreconcilable differences.

Abdullahi stated that the PDP is open to bringing Obi, Kwankwaso, and others back into the party, saying, “Discussions are ongoing. Rest assured, there will be light at the end of the tunnel.”

The 2023 presidential election saw APC’s Bola Tinubu win with 8,794,726 votes, followed by Atiku with 6,984,520 votes, Obi with 6,101,533 votes, and Kwankwaso with 1,496,687 votes.
