Peter Obi Reacts To ThisDay’s Presidential Poll

Barely two months to the forthcoming 2023 presidential elections, several polls and projections have been carried out by various persons and media houses respectively, predicting who will emerge as the winner.

ThisDay Newspaper in line conducted a THISDAY poll – The Explainer – released by the THISDAY 2023 Election Centre projecting the outcome of the election.

According to their projection, The Presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is sure to have a 25 per cent win in 23 states, followed by the All Progressive Congress’ (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu with having 20 states and sure of 25%.

The Labour Party’s (LP) candidate, Peter Obi emerged third with non-existent in Katsina, Jigawa, Kebbi and Zamfara and Borno but has a strong foothold in the South East and South-South, while New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) flagbearer, Rabiu Kwankwaso took the fourth place.

Reacting to this projection in a viral video, Peter Obi called ThisDay’s projection an “imagination”.

When asked by a journalist what he thought of the projection, Obi said “He didn’t say poll, they say projection. Go and read it. Projection is different from poll. Poll is when you ask actual people, projection is when you imagine, so it is two different things.”

Earlier, the Chief Spokesperson of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP-PCC), Dr Yunusa Tanko had reacted noting, Obi is popular in all the states of the federation as Labour Party is reaching out to all the 176, 846 polling units in Nigeria.

He said “As we speak today, we are having a meeting with all the contestants in the party including the party structures with Peter Obi himself.

“The idea is not about Peter Obi not existing in Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Borno or Jigawa as claimed by the THISDAY Election Centre. Right now as we speak, Peter Obi is present and popular in all the states of the federation”.
