Police await autopsy after suspicious murder in Akwa Ibom hotel

Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it awaits autopsy to determine the actual cause of the murder of one Ernest Akpan, who died in a hotel located at Ikot Udoma in the Eket Local Government Area of the state.

Akpan was said to have been murdered in mysterious circumstances at the hotel while celebrating the end of the year 2021 alongside friends.

The state command spokesman, Odiko Macdon, while fielding questions from newsmen on Tuesday, explained that the autopsy would determine the cause of his death, adding that the CCTV devise that was tampered with by a yet-to-be-identified person would be studied.

Macdon disclosed that investigation had commenced in earnest to determine the root causes of the mysterious death, adding that the CP, Andrew Amiengheme, had ordered that the matter be transferred to the State Headquarters at Ikot Akpanabia in Uyo.

“Yes we are aware of the incident, investigation is ongoing. I think in no distance time the handlers would come out,” Macdon assured.

It has been reported that the commencement of the autopsy followed pressure mounted by the deceased family who had demanded a view of the CCTV footage of activities at the hotel on the night.

The suspicious murder had replaced the earlier circulated news that he was drowned in the hotel swimming following the mysterious disappearance of CCTV footage from about 4.15am to around 5.58am when the alleged murder must have been committed.
