It is no more news that President Muhammadu Buhari’s son did his wedding (Nikkah) in the Bichi Emirate Council of Kano state. Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari married Zahra Nasiru Bayero, daughter of the 2nd Emir of Bichi Friday, 20th August 2021.

The wedding ceremony witnessed the presence of governors, ministers, traditional rulers, Captains of Industries, politicians as well as members of the diplomatic community.

Reports have it that about twenty (20) private jets landed at the Kano International airport for the sake of the wedding. Among those top politicians reportedly to be in attendance were Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Ahmad Lawan, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, Chief Femi Fani Kayode, Issa Pantami, and several state governors, amongst others.

However, there are two things that the youths in Nigeria need to learn from these politicians that attended the wedding of the President’s son, Yusuf.

1. Youths should not fight for any politician. Many youths are ready to fight and become enemies with their friends because they like or hate a politician. The class of people that attended Yusuf’s wedding indicated that in politics, there is no permanent enemy or friend, only individual political differences.

Mr Goodluck Jonathan lost his second term ambition as Nigeria president to President Muhammadu Buhari. Former vice -president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lost the 2019 Presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari and has always criticized most of the policies of the Buhari administration. Yet, he attended the wedding, seen laughing and ‘gisting’ with the president.

The former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, a strong critic of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, was seen at the wedding in the company of Pantami, someone he once described as an unrepentant jihadist.

2. Nigerian Youths should understand that no politician is worth dying for. They are all friends, with individuals, trying to protect their interests. Many politicians are only trying to make young people see their opponents as their enemies. They engage in politics without bitterness in secret, as they dine and wine with their political opponents, but publicly behave like they are enemies. Some youths have taken it upon themselves to hurt their friends just because they supported a politician/ party they hated. Some are even dead while trying to ensure their preferred candidate/party wins an election.

Yusuf wedding is a reminder for Nigerian Youth to understand that these politicians’ beliefs about politics are different from what they thought us. Never help any of them snatch ballot boxes again, and do not engage in killing or destruction because of any one of them. They are friends eating from the same pot, never mind how they dragged one another in the public.
