The Chairman, Governing Council and Rector, Eko College of Management and Technology, Mr. Segun Osundairo, has urged the students of the institution to make the best of their time in the college, noting that they have chosen the right path to learning by coming to the school.

Osundairo, who spoke at the second matriculation ceremony of the institution in Lagos on Saturday, said that the students must be ready to play their part to ensure their success in the college. “Here at Eko College, we train you to be successful. We will train you to use your brain and to use your hands. We will give you theory; we will give you practical, to equip you to take on the world. But you must be ready to cooperate and play your part.’’

Congratulating the matriculating students, parents and their guardians, he described the ceremony as a formal opportunity for the students to pledge to observe the rules and regulations governing their time in the college as well as their formal admission into the college as bona fide students of the institution. “It is a mark that you have been elevated from the larger segment of the general society to the rank of the privileged,” he said.

The college was accredited for National Diploma (ND) in 2018 and it has over 300 students. It has also moved to its permanent site in Ikotun Egbe, which has the capacity to accommodate over 5000 students, with 100 classrooms, hostels to accommodate over 3000 students and many other facilities.

Earlier, the Chief Administrative Officer, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty alleviation, Lagos State, Mrs. Anoke, in her goodwill speech, said the students had made the right choice by coming to the school and urged them to avoid any form of distraction.

She said the objective of Eko City aligns with the goals of government to empower youths and alleviate poverty, which she said, had eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation. “Training students in business line; such as media, management and technology will bring about self-reliance and alleviate poverty”, she said.

Also, the college registrar, Mr Micheal Bamigbola, said the school was running a vision to provide admission to qualified candidates, who might not have had the opportunity in convectional institutions. “We are set to provide youth with both theory and practical, with much emphasis on practical.

“We want to increase the population of employers, not employees, and to this effect, a number of our lecturers are not just qualified in teaching but have field experience. There are well equipped facilities to help students understand what they are being taught, rather than having imaginary views of subjects.’’

Speaking further, Mr Bamigbola said the polytechnic was engaging in a lot of internal work to expand the school. “Currently, there are four departments; Media Technology, Performing and Media Art, Management Science and Engineering. We are building ourselves up to be able to take more accredited courses and admit more students. We will continue to improve in our processes and deliveries; and in the quality of impartation on the students.’’

The Director of Academy, Mr Ojo Stephen, said the school was growing at a rapid rate since it was accredited for National Diploma (ND) in 2018, with over 300 students. “Some polytechnics established before us do not have as many students as we have. We are practically oriented and this makes us unique in Eko College of Management and Technology,’’ he explained.

The quality of knowledge being passed down to students of Eko City was demonstrated through the performance by students of the department of Performing and Media Arts. Matriculating students also expressed their satisfaction with the quality of education they were receiving in the school.

Dignitaries at the event include the Elegbe of Egbe Kingdom, Oba Ashimiyu Adebowale Dada-Otta, whose son also matriculated.
