The National President of the Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (PTAN), Alh Haruna Danjuma, has urged the federal and state governments to draft security agencies to strategic locations as schools across the nation prepare to resume on Monday.
The PTAN President in a statement
said the call became necessary in view of the fact that kidnapping, banditry and terrorism still persist and schools are still soft targets of attacks in the country.
Danjuma explained that it behoves on the FG and the state governments to be proactive in averting the menace of kidnapping in schools in the nation.
He appealed, “We are begging all the 36 states and federal government of Nigeria to help us protect our children through the provisions of adequate security in both primary and secondary schools.”
Danjuma noted that Covid-19 pandemic is still a big threat to the existence of human beings, while stressing the need for both states and federal to provide face masks, hand sanitisers, and educate the students on it.

The statement also appealed to the federal government and Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, to go back to the negotiation table in order to end the ongoing six-month strike that is affecting the quality of university education in the country.
It urged the Kebbi State and federal governments to redouble their efforts in rescuing the remaining kidnapped female students of the Federal Government Girls College, Yawuri.
The PTAN further added that the students have been in captivity for over 450 days now lamenting, “no one is talking about them. In addition, there are still some school students in bandits.”
