The Nigerian Labour Congress has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Nigeria Police Force to vacate the state secretariat of the union in the state.
The Rivers State council of the NLC issued the ultimatum at the end of its state Executive Committee meeting in Port Harcourt.
The NLC frowned at the continued occupation of its secretariat despite a series of entreaties by the national leadership of the union and threatened to explore measures within the ambit of the law to take back possession of the facility.
The Labour union also threatened to resume its “suspended Industrial action” in the state “without notice” if the state government fails to implement the report of the tripartite committee which has lasted for over one year.

Some of the issues raised by the union include; “promotion of workers, implementation of Annual increment, payment of outstanding arrears and sincere resolve to release funds to offset back of gratuities and death benefits”.
A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the state secretary of NLC, Mathew Olabe also accused the state government of “constant victimisation of its members through the issuance of Administrative Queries and other antics to muscle the activities of the union including the use of divide and rule”.
