Seven burnt to death, seven others injured in Ogun accident

Seven persons were said to been burnt beyond recognition while seven others suffered varying degrees of burns when a commercial bus burst into flames on motion.

The sad incident according to traffic report occurred around 2.50pm on Wednesday few metres before Odogbolu junction inbound Ijebu Ode along Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi gave number plate of the Mazda bus as AGL 886 YD, adding that it was only the driver who escaped unhurt from the scene.

He said according to eyewitness account, the vehicle burst into flame from the engine compartment.

Akinbiyi explained that a total number of 15 passengers were in the vehicle, out of which the only male was the driver and the 14 others were females.

He added that they were travelling for a religious programme.

He said, “The passengers in the commercial bus were 15, out of which 7 females were burnt to death, while the remaining 7 suffered varying degrees of burns and  were taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for treatment. However, the driver of the bus escaped.”

The accidented Mazda bus had been evacuated to Odogbolu Motor Traffic Division.

Meanwhile, while TRACE commiserates with the families of the deceased and also wishes the injured speedy recovery, it warned motorists to maintain and service their vehicles regularly.
