Seven dead, 10 rescued as building collapses in Lagos

Seven persons have died and 10 others rescued as a building collapsed at Lagos Island on Sunday.

The building which was under construction was located at 10 Odo Street, Obalende Lagos.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the incident,  adding that the   building  was supposed to be a three- storey building  but collapsed at a two- storey.

According to the Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, 10 people were rescued while seven people died in the incident.

NEMA said the two-storey building under construction collapsed while deck casting was ongoing.

“One of the deceased was a woman simply called madam Nike who came to operate POS. She was the only woman so far recovered according to the agency,” the agency noted.

It was revealed  that the woman usually  wasn’t   working  on Sunday but today was the only day she worked on Sunday.

NEMA said the situation was completely under control as at 8.09 pm with the full compliments of Nigerian army and other security agencies.

However, the agency said search and rescue was still ongoing at the scene of the incident.
