The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the principal officers of the Senate have met with the a  meeting behind closed doors with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities led by its President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi.

The meeting held behind closed doors, sources said, was to  discuss the alternative designed by ASUU to the Integrated Personnel Payroll System by the Federal Government for the payment of civil servants’ salaries.  The union had proposed the  University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as an alternative to IPPIS.

ASUU and its members have been on strike since February this year. Among other grievances, the lecturers have opposed their migration to the IPPIS platform, noting that it negates the principle of university autonomy among others. The lecturers vowed to remain on strike until its grievances were addressed.

But, the Federal Government gave university lecturers up till November 2020  to comply with the directive to enlist on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) or be removed from the payroll.
