Governor Zulum had gone to the school early in the morning as part of his activities to assess public institutions in the state. He was said to be surprised to find Maxi already in school, waiting for her pupils. Mazi, who hails from Abia State, is said to have taught in the school for 31 years.

Impressed by the female teacher’s dedication, Zulum was said to have commended and rewarded her with personal cash of N100,000, a sum about three times the teacher’s monthly salary of N35,000.

The governor also directed the Executive Chairman of Borno State Universal Education Board, Dr Shettima Kullima, to review Maxi’s civil service position and recommend her for promotion.

Although, Maxi possesses the National Certificate of Education (NCE), the SUBEB chairman recommended her promotion from class teacher to assistant headmistress. He said even though the woman was not a graduate, her 31 years teaching experience and commitment coupled with an executive order by the governor had earned her the promotion.
