Every facet of human existence may be equated to a beginning, as though everyone’s life included a moment when a good change or occurrence emerges for the first time This is the situation with Dr Mukhail Aremu Akinde, the recently appointed Rector of The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro.
In his acceptance speech, Mukhail said he was delighted to continue his service as the sixth Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, adding that he would consolidate on the achievements recorded by his predecessor.
He commended the outgoing rector and other principal officers for their contributions to moving the institution to a higher level.
Mukhail also commended staff members for their support and cooperation during his first tenure as rector.
The Rector pledged to replicate the successes recorded in other areas in order to create a conducive academic environment for all stakeholders.
In his words: “Oriental saying goes, ingratitude to human beings is ingratitude to God. Folks, you are most welcome to the best Polytechnic in Nigeria. The Polytechnic, which was established in 1979 with three (3) Schools and seven (7) Departments and now five (5) Schools plus the School of Part Time Studies and Thirty Five (35) Academic Departments. It is the most sought Polytechnic by admission applicants(ND and HND), and it has uninterrupted academic session in the last 15 years, serene academic environment and, transparent transition processes, which led to my emergence as the 6th Rector of the Polytechnic.

“I appreciate the entire Polytechnic community, starting from our Students Union; local chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics(ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP). Also, Non-Academic Staff Unions of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU); Muslim and Christian communities to providers of ancillary services whose remits have also been invaluable to the functionality of our Institution, for your supports and prayers all along. I profoundly and lavishly appreciate my charitable friends, brothers and other colleagues within and outside, who had competed with me in the tedious processes leading to this appointment. Honestly, they have demonstrated their sportsmanship and altruism by resolving to continue to promote peace and progress of our great institution. There is no doubt that they are all great scholars who have demonstrated consummate capacity and panache in their chosen careers and endeavors. It has only pleased God that their humble friend and colleague is assuming this mantle. It is my prayer that we continue to work together as brothers, in the spirit of our peculiar working hypothesis of a one big family for the progress of our great institution.
“I want to specially appreciate the Polytechnic Management teams, starting from our most venerable Council Chairman, Dr Veronica Ogbuagu, and her distinguished Council Members, to the former Rector, Arc Olusegun Aluko, PhD and his Management team, not just for their ingenious management approach to further nurture the Polytechnic on the trajectory of excellence, most symbolised by the institution’s unmatchable developmental strides, but also in their wisdom to midwife a seamless transition in the most timely manner. This is a rare feat, going by goings-on in other schools, that can only be owned to a well thought out consideration for peace and unconstrained development by the great leaders that God has blessed us with. Arc Olusegun Aluko, PhD, most importantly, has elevated the bar of good governance in the most unprecedented manner, parlaying the successes of his predecessors, Dr. Engr. Tayo Ogunbadejo, Prof. Olateru Olagbegi, Dr. Engr Shuaib Makajuola, Dr Raheem Oloyo, into the spectacle that our Polytechnic has become.
“I however request your prayers, collaboration, hardwork, and support, as I step into these big sized shoes and attempt to stand on the shoulders of our giantlike past leaders to consolidate their existential feats.
“I profoundly appreciate the Visitor to the Polytechnic, President Muhammadu Buhari and the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu for reposing in me their confidence and affording me a rare and challenging opportunity to contribute my modest quota to tertiary education management in furtherance of the actualisation of both the Medium Term National Development Plan 2025 and the Nigeria Agenda 2050. I also appreciate angelic individuals who God had touched to immensely invest their goodwill, recommendations, prayers, and support in this course. I appreciate all descendants of Olugoke Sewele-the first Aguro of Ilaro Kingdom- the biological conduit that ushered me into this world. I appreciate the entire people of Yewa region for being an accommodating and supportive host, without which the peace and development that have been notched so far by the Polytechnic would have been impossible. This untrammeled stability has been made possible through the deliberate visionary efforts, pacifist and development oriented leadership of the paramount ruler, HRM, Oba ESV Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, Asade Agunloye IV Kehinde Olugbenle and other great Kings and Chiefs in Yewaland. May your reigns be long.
