The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that examination boards in Uganda and Kenya have requested verification of records presented by Nigerian students applying for admission into their universities. This move comes amid concerns of fake certificates detected by JAMB.
According to a document titled “Registrar’s Report on 2023 Admission & 2024 UTME Policy Meeting,” JAMB emphasized that it will not alter the records of any student. “Uganda and Kenya examination boards are now writing to JAMB to confirm records presented by candidates for admission. JAMB would not falsify record,” the document stated.
This development follows the federal government’s recent suspension of certificate verification processes from several countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Benin Republic, and Togo, amid concerns of certificate fraud.
JAMB has also warned higher institutions that fail to submit lists of newly admitted students immediately following their matriculation ceremonies. Institutions have been advised to regularly submit their matriculation lists to the Federal Ministry of Education no later than three months after their matriculation ceremonies.

The Board has noted an influx of candidates seeking to resolve issues related to admissions not processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) since 2017. However, JAMB has emphasized that the focus of its actions is on institutions, not the candidates.
