A housewife, simply identified as Wakaego, is battling for her life at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Rivers State, following an alleged machete attack by her husband and his mistress.
The husband, simply identified as Chima, and his female lover, reportedly struck her several times with a machete, Monday, in Omerelu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State when the victim, Wakaego, confronted the husband for bringing home the mistress.
Elder brother to the victim, Anayo Warisi, narrated: “My sister’s husband took his female lover to the house and the wife confronted him, asking why he would do such.
“The husband and the mistress started beating her, while the husband was said to have used a machete to cut her all over, but the gash on the leg is more severe.
“My elder sister and brother took her to a hospital at Elele. She was rejected. The hospital said the wound was much and referred her to UPTH. We want the husband arrested because it’s a case of attempted murder. We suspect he aimed to kill my sister.”
Meantime, Gladys Oyenmwen, Secretary of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has called for a thorough investigation into the incident and anyone found culpable made to face the law.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for Rivers Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, said the female lover of the victim’s husband has been arrested by Elele Police Division and the state Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, has ordered the transfer of the case to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt.
