There are increased hopes that COVID-19 pandemic which has once terrorised Britain may be gradually fizzling out as the country begins to experience low infection of coronavirus. As at Monday, only one in every 1,700 people is currently infected — down from one in 400 just weeks ago.

Also, the country announced just 15 more Covid-19 deaths on Monday, the lowest daily toll since 10 days before lockdown was introduced following the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

Statistics from the Department of Health shows that 42,647 Britons died after testing positive to the coronavirus; however, the actual number of fatalities topped 50,000 when all suspected fatalities are taken into account.

And official statistics shows just 958 more cases of the disease were diagnosed in the lowest 24-hour jump since country’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, imposed restrictions to halt the outbreak on March 23.

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock also revealed that fewer than 5,000 coronavirus-infected Britons were in hospital for the first time since the peak of the crisis, saying, “We are clearly making progress. Thanks to the patience and sacrifice of everyone watching, infection rates are falling, the NHS is restoring and the virus is in retreat.”

The increase in deaths is the smallest one-day rise since March 13, when just one fatality was announced. Fifteen Covid-19 deaths were also registered across all settings in Britain two days later on March 15.

Although the number of deaths is always lower on Sundays and Mondays because of weekend delays to records, experts are convinced the virus is fading in the UK.

It was predicted last month that deaths would likely hit zero by July, while a study had suggested that daily new confirmed cases could fall to nought within three weeks.
