Girl Child Day: National Library trains girls on ICT

The Plateau branch of the National Library of Nigeria has organised a training session on Information Communication Technology and other skills for secondary school girls in the state.

Speaking at the event on Monday in Jos, NLN Head in the state, Sarah Mshelia, said that the training was in commemoration of the 2021 International Day of the Girl-Child.

She explained that the training was organised in collaboration with two NGOs, the Women and Girl-Child Rescue as Development Initiative and Better Class Environment.

“As you all know, today (Monday) is the International Day of the Girl-Child, a day set aside to celebrate the girl-child all over the world.

“We have partner these organisations to celebrate the girl-child in Plateau by organising this training on ICT and other skills,” Mshelia said.

On her part, Bridget Dalkyes, the Executive Director of WGTDI said the event aimed at celebrating the achievements of the girl-child in the state.

She said that training would enable the beneficiaries to be acquainted with current happenings, as well as use the internet for their personal development.

“The girl-child has a lot of potential worth celebrating and this is why we are here today.

“Also, we have decided to put up the training on some skills for them, particularly on ICT, so that they won’t be left behind as the world is moving,” she said.

On her part, Mrs Sandra Adik, leader of Better Class Environment, said her organisation would teach the girls the importance of having a clean and better environment for the growth and development of society.
